Well if we wondered how Celtic would respond, after Rangers won yesterday. They gave their answer resoundingly. A big 5-1 Victory, at Parkhead against Hamilton.
Well one of Celtic’s top stars, Odsonne Edouard got 3 goals in Celtic’s win. He was of course , top scorer last season. Remarkably Hamilton were level at 1-1, as Scott Martin’s deflected shot squared it up.
Frimpong gave Celtic the lead a few minutes later. After that the result was never in doubt. Two more goals from Edouard, and a Klimala strike in the 90th minute, and a 5-1 thrashing was complete.
Best till last
The final game of the weekend, and even after game one, it seems Neil Lennon’s men will be hard to dethrone. They looked the most impressive team, and they have more quality in there squad.
Lennon is a manager who knows how to win the Scottish title. We will see what happens, when we have the first Old Firm Derby between Rangers and Celtic, I suppose.
Both Rangers and Celtic play next Sunday. Rangers game at Ibrox is first up. A chance to put more pressure on Celtic. They host St Mirren, who picked up a win in there first match.
Kilmarnock host Celtic, looking to bounce back after a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian yesterday. Who will get the upper hand next weekend. We shall see.
What is going on with, the booking of Female Wrestlers on Raw and Smackdown. On our podcast we discussed this. How many times can we see the same matches?
Too much Bayley and Sasha
There is no doubting that both Bayley and Sasha are world class, and 2 of the best to ever grace the squared circle. We don’t need to see them on every brand, in every main event though.
I am so fed up of seeing Bayley and Sasha against Bliss and Cross, or Asuka and the recently departed Kairi. They are all talented in the ring, but it’s getting boring. Let’s see them either go up against different talent, or off the shows for a few weeks.
Misuse of other female talent
The same can be said of other talent. How many times do we need to see Naomi v Lacey or Sonya v Mandy. The latter should have been left in the past, for sure.
Let me see another aspect of Sonya Deville. I don’t want to just think of her, as the jealous ex-bestie of Mandy Rose. That is how WWE are billing her though.
She has an MMA background, and is a deadly striker, lets see that against Bayley or Sasha. I don’t even know what Mandy Rose can do in the ring, as she has to go through the same backstage beatings all the time.
A terrible match i fear
It seems that Smackdown teased a hair vs hair match, this week. Sonya cut some of Mandy’s hair, and then we saw her grab the dreaded clippers. I have seen this over and over, so unless straight edge society is coming back, leave it in the past.
A good booking was made on Raw, Shayna Baszler vs Nia Jax. This could have been a good booking, what happened? They ended it in a count out, almost instantly. Why? Why? Why?
It does not need any more build up. There are no titles at stake, just let them fight. Yet again, WWE continues to make bad choices, with the female superstars.
Well there is my rant over. Here is a list of some great female talent we don’t see enough of. Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, Natalya, Carmella to name a few.
The iiconics, Mandy, Sonya, Ruby Riott are all being wasted. The little time they do have, is not put on show. NXT’s Women’s division is still flourishing, and it baffles me, why the main roster can’t be the same.
Hello everyone, it has been another busy week in Wrestling. Going forward this is the format I will be reporting on everything WWE and AEW. I hope it works for you.
The big story on Raw. Randy Orton challenging Drew McIntyre, to a WWE title match at Summerslam. Drew accepted later in the night, before his match with Ziggler.
It was a no DQ match, which Drew won after delivering a claymore to Dolph, through a table. Orton struck with an RKO after the match, and as usual it was out of nowhere.
Also on Raw, Sasha banks became Raw Women’s champion, officially. As her and Asuka were slugging it out, Bayley attacked Kairi backstage, Asuka went to her aid, and was counted out. The ‘Golden Role Models’ have all the gold.
In the main event on NXT, we had another triple threat match, for a chance to be part of the 5 man ladder match at Takeover. Dexter Lumis vs Timothy Thatcher vs Finn Balor.
Another shock win, Dexter Lumis picking up the W, after making Thatcher pass out with his Silence Submission. Next week Priest takes on Oney and the debuting Ridge Holland, you fear for Priest the way it has gone so far.
Also on NXT this week, we had the return of Imperium. They took on Ever Rise in a tag match. They won with there European bomb, before Undisputed Era came out and destroyed them. Next week Fish and O’Reilly challenge Imperium, for the tag titles.
Well in the main event on Dynamite, Jon Moxley and Darby Allin teamed up, against Cage and Starkes, in a no DQ Tornado Tag match. Could the new pair of Starkes and Cage win.
The answer of course was no. With Cage in a submission, Darby dived off the top rope, with his skateboard lined with tacs. He landed on Starkes back, picking up the win, and leaving Starkes bloody. A title match next week Mox v Allin.
The other big story on Dynamite, Matt Cardona is All Elite. He turned up as Cody was jumped by Dark Order. A few ‘Rough Ryder’s’ later and him and Cody stood tall. What next for Matt Cardona?
The main event this week, was Bayley v Nikki Cross again. There is a locker room full of female talent, but we see the same thing every week, to no-one surprise Bayley retained the title.
After the match, Nikki left Alexa in the ring. Out came the Fiend, who put Alexa to sleep with the Mandible Claw. No doubt Strowman will be back for revenge soon.
We also saw another version of Mandy Rose getting beat up by Sonya. I thought this was done, but it seems with Mandy back let’s carry it on. Sonya cut Mandy’s hair, so I am expecting a hair vs hair match very soon.
Big E had his first single match, since Kofi joined Woods on the injury list. He went one on one with the Miz. It was a good match with a strange ending.
Big E picked up the win, with a stretch muffler of all things. The highlight of the match came from Johnny Drip-Drip. He did a somersault kick to E, using the ring steps. Very impressive from John Morrison.
Well I was completely wrong. I thought Eddie Howe, had committed to Bournemouth. A week later and he has left by mutual consent.
I am shocked to be honest, he has been at Bournemouth for 25 years. He clearly feels he has more to offer, but not to the Cherries. It’s a big loss to Bournemouth, as he is a great young coach.
Has a job opening appeared
Well, you have to think that maybe a position has become available. Where though that is the question. I have not heard of any openings in the Premier League, so why would Howe leave if it was at Championship level.
We know that he enjoys a project. Has there been some interest from abroad? The only job I know of in England is the Watford job. That would seem a lateral move, maybe even a decline in position.
Today there was news that they have been speaking, with the Udinese boss. A club owned by the Watford Pozzo family. So you would feel that would be a done deal. So where is the question?
He has left before
Of course, Eddie Howe did leave Bournemouth before. He became the Burnley manager before Sean Dyche, but left and returned to Bournemouth, stating personal reasons.
So is it a case, that he was not ready then? Does he feel like now he has completed his unfinished business, with Bournemouth? I suppose only time will tell.
He was linked to the England job before Southgate took it, and also was briefly linked to the Arsenal job, before Emery took it last summer. There is no doubting his credentials.
Well we are going to have to see on this one. What I will say is that he is a great manager, who did wonders with an overacheiving Bournemouth club. I wish him all the best, and hope that it doesn’t send the Cherries into a spiral.
Well what a great FA Cup final at an empty Wembley. Arsenal win there 14th FA Cup, and they deserved it. I said in my build up blog, I fancied the gunners and they didn’t disappoint.
Chelsea start well but lose
Well Chelsea started well, and it was that man Pulisic again. The ball was played into Giroud, he laid it off to Pulisic who fired in. It was a mixed day for the American.
From this point Arsenal were on top. They kept playing balls over the top for Aubameyang, and in the end it paid off. He broke past Azpillecueta, and the Spaniard had no choice but to bring him down.
The Chelsea captain was given the yellow card, Aubameyang scored the penalty to level the game. It was 1-1 at half time, with it all to play for in the 2nd half.
Aubameyang the man
There were two pivotal moments in the second half. Firstly the injury to Pulisic, somehow he managed to shoot after pulling it. Then Kovacic’s sending off, a ridiculous decision, and definitely not a 2nd yellow card.
Just before the red card, Arsenal had scored there second. A great break from Bellerin, the ball ended with Aubameyang, and he dinked it over Caballero. Great from the Gabon man.
A third injury for Chelsea to Pedro looked bad. It seems he dislocated his shoulder, as he left on a stretcher with oxygen. Chelsea couldn’t worry Arsenal, and the gunners pick up there 14th FA Cup.
A great day for Arsenal, there fans and Mikel Arteta. A fully deserved cup win for them. For Frank Lampard’s men they need to pick themselves up for Bayern, this Friday. What team he can put out this weekend.
For Arsenal now, its about getting Aubameyang signed on a new contract. He proved how important he is to this Arsenal squad. Hopefully Arteta and the board can convince him to stay.
Well as one season ends, another one begins. The Scottish season ended prematurely, due to the pandemic as Celtic were confirmed champions. A normal start time really for the Scottish League.
Rangers travelled to Aberdeen, on the opening day. They are looking to end Celtic’s domination of the Scottish Premiership. They have made a good start to their campaign.
Kent with the winner
As the heading states, it was the former Liverpool man Ryan Kent, who gave Rangers the 3 points. It’s a good start for Steven Gerrard’s men. An empty stadium at Pittodrie, just like the scenes down south.
Ryan Kent scored in the 21st minute, a nice cool finish, after a lay off from in demand Alfredo Morelos. Hagi had a few chances, and shot just wide in the 2nd half.
Andrew Considine was sent off late, for a nasty studs up challenge on Scott Arfield. Joe Aribo missed a good chance to make it 2-0 late on, but Rangers pick up the 3 points, and will hope it’s the first win of many.
There were big wins for St Mirren and Hibernian. St Mirren won 1-0, at home to Livingston. A goal from Richard Tait in the 30th minute. A great start from them.
Hibernian won 2-1 at home to Kilmarnock. Chris Burke scored for Kilmarnock just before half time. Two earlier goals from Martin Boyle secured the 3 points for Hibs.
In the only other game. Dundee United drew 1-1 with 10 man St Johnstone. Nicky Clark scored from the spot for Dundee United. Michael O’Halloran was sent off for St Johnstone, but Liam Craig scored for them in the 2nd half, as they game ended in a draw.
So it is official Matt Cardona aka Zack Ryder and FTR have signed contracts with AEW. What a good bit of business this is. FTR have been fighting as free agents for a few weeks now.
Matt Cardona made his AEW debut this week. Helping out long term friend Cody, against the Dark Order. In my opinion this is a great signing, and how jacked did he look. He has obviously been working hard since his WWE release.
Woooo wooo woooo, you got him!
Like I said, it’s a great signing. He has had a stellar career, in WWE. A former intercontinental champion, and what a great moment that was, at Wrestlemania. He was also a multiple tag champ with Curt Hawkins.
It will be interesting to see where her fits in at AEW. Will he be part of the Nightmare Family? Will he have his own path in AEW? He has all the calibre to hold, the TNT title, maybe a rivalry with Cody, if AEW goes the other way.
AEW officially sign “the” tag team
So we saw it on Dynamite, FTR signed there contract with some help from Arn Anderson, and some whisky from Hangman Page. AEW now officially have the best tag team division with Cash and Dax.
Hopefully soon, we get to see the FTR v Young Bucks dream match. The two best teams in the world, teeing off against one another. We also heard them say they are hosting an tag appreciation night, on August 12th. That will be interesting.
Another signing, we saw on last week’s Dynamite. Eddie ‘the king’ Kingston. I saw him briefly in Impact, when he was manager of Santana and Ortiz. He definitely has the promo skills.
I look forward to seeing more of him in the ring, to judge that. It does mean also a possible link up between him and the former LAX men, if the Inner Circle was ever to break up.
Its FA Cup final day at Wembley. Arsenal take on Chelsea, after both teams took out the Manchester clubs in the semi finals. Both teams have been in good form, since the restart.
Who’s got the advantage?
This is a good question. Both teams need the win, so it should be a fantastic match. For Arsenal, yes they want to win the FA Cup, and come away with a trophy.
For them though, it’s how they get a spot in the Europa League. More than Europe itself, it helps them convince Aubameyang to stay. You have to think in his 30’s, he wants to be in the best competitions. It could be key for Arteta.
As for Chelsea, after securing 4th place in the premier league, and Champions league football. It’s all about Frank Lampard, winning a trophy in his first season as Chelsea boss.
For me, I fancy Arsenal. I have really enjoyed watching them play, since the restart. They hold wins over Liverpool and Manchester City. I like how Arteta has mixed experience and Youth.
I have enjoyed seeing Saka and Nketiah get chances in the team. Mix that with Aubameyang and Lacazette. A great fusion. They have also looked better at the back, you will always see a David Luiz mistake, but they have been good.
I think Chelsea, may just be a step off the pace after securing 4th place. News that Ngolo Kante and Willian are back, will boost the Blues. For me though, it all depends on how Pulisic plays, he has been the star for the Blues.
It kicks off at 5:30 this evening, and I look forward to seeing the derby for the cup. Will Arteta or Lampard walk away with there first trophy. We shall see later.
Well in one of the least surprising stories in sport, the attempted Saudi take over of Newcastle is over. There was no way that this, could be ratified by the Premier League, let’s face it.
It is a shame as Newcastle are a big club, with a big stadium and great fan base. It was so long ago, the days of Keegan’s Newcastle challenging for a title. It’s a team and city, that should be in Europe each year, based on it’s size.
Unfortunately it is just another failed attempt. As a Blackburn fan, who has gone through the takeover process. It’s not always a bad thing, when it doesn’t happen.
I know Newcastle fans can’t wait to see the back, of Mike Ashley. Trust me though, having owners who know nothing about football isn’t always a good thing, especially if they try and get involved in so many decisions.
Football is a business, we all know that. You need the right people as shareholders and in the boardroom. There are so many investors in the UK, or local who may not have the same backing as the Saudi’s, but would handle the club in the right way.
Mike Ashley has apparently said, that while he owns the club, he will continues to support Steve Bruce, and pump money in to the club. We will have to see if he is true to his word.
To be fair to Steve Bruce I think that 13th place, was good for the toon, in the end this season. Some signings didn’t work out, but the signing of Saint-Maximin was great.
He really looks a player. I was saying to a friend, who is a Newcastle fan. It is important they look at some players from the teams that have gone down. A Callum Wilson for instance would be a fantastic signing.
The important thing is that Newcastle are still, a premier league team firstly. It is about building though, but if takeover bids fail to materialise, then it is up to Bruce and the Chief Executive to recruit well, and get victories.
Well it was another enthralling playoff semi final, the second leg between Fulham and Cardiff. Fulham managed to hold on to a 3-2 aggregate win, but Cardiff made them work for it.
Kebano, Kebano, Kebano oh!
Well how important was Neeskens Kebano to this tie. He scored an important goal in injury time, at the Cardiff City stadium. Then he scored the goal, which secured there place in the final.
I have not seen a lot of him in all honesty, but he sure knows how to score vital goals. Fulham were favourites before the tie, and secured there place as expected.
Cardiff Brave to the end
Well just like I mentioned how good, Steve Cooper has done at Swansea. The same can be said for Neil Harris at Cardiff. They too were unlikely to make the playoffs, before lockdown.
They showed determination though from the moment, football was back. Curtis Nelson and Lee Tomlin helped them to a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage. It just wasn’t quite enough.
For this Cardiff team, I feel there does need to be recruitment. I don’t think Callum Paterson or Robert Glatzel, get this team to the Premier League. They are good players, but not 20 goals a season players.
This is something Cardiff need. Where they get a striker from is the problem, but they do need to strengthen there. They may need to move on some players too, as is life. Etheridge could generate some funds, after Smithies proved his quality in goal.
Well there we have it, an all London final. Fulham will meet Brentford in an empty Wembley Stadium, on Tuesday 4th August. It should be a good final, and you have to say based on the whole season, the right teams are there.
Its the 100 million pound game. The difference in the boardroom, and on the pitch will be decided by this game. If I had to choose, I would go for Brentford and that BMW attack, only if Pontus Jansson doesn’t try to be Maradona again.
